Lesson 3 - Method of Creative Thinking

Creative thinking including both convergent and divergent thinking.

Divergent thinking
Jus like the figure shown above, divergent thinking involves exploring and generating new ideas by brainstorming, look for alternatives for the problem and so on. This would be the most important step for artists and designers to explore the tasks given before they can move on.

Convergent Thinking

After the solution being diverge, we need to find the best way to get the answer and it require convergent thinking. At this moment, all sorts of possibilities, solution and ideas that generates in the mind group together to get a solution.

Unfortunately, everyone in the world including you and me is either good in divergent or convergent thinking, usually not at both. Just like the studies of right brain and left brain that controls different tasks in our mind.

MIND MAP
Tony Buzan introduced this method call mind map for generating ideas and brainstorming. It increase the interests of both the creator and viewer.

There are few techniques or sort of like rules while creating a mind map. As it have two types of mind map which is logical mind map and associated mind map, both have their own characteristics that seems similar by the appearance but not the message being delivered.

Logical mind map
It directly connecting the images and words in the mind map through links. All the images and words are related to the subject in the central. This kind of mind map are common and often can be seen.

Associated mind map
In this mind map, the words or images that links to one another can be not related to the subject. It is very random and do not directly related to the subject given.
