As part of the course, we are assigned to think of an idea on presenting creative multimedia. Below is the mind map regarding creative multimedia that our group had elaborated.
Apart from our discussion, we d
ecide to chose 'Explore The Future' as our main idea for this particular project.

This is the 2nd mind map relating to explore the future
After we have been consulting for few weeks, we are able to come out with our own report about our topic.

Next, after our topic being confirmed, we were told to produce our final in any media, for example posters, video, flash and so on. We decide to make a video to show our idea on how we explore and understand about what future is about.

...Below are part of our sketches in producing our final results...

Lastly, this is our video that we had shared in youtube as well. Enjoy and hope you all can understand the way future being explore since it cannot be estimate by anyone.

Random word/image association

In this exercise, we were asked to create "scary image/object" that will instill fear among people through out the ages.

The picture and words been given is "kitten"
During my progress, few words came to my mind that gave scary characteristics to a cat.
First, color - In often situations that people have stereotypes towards black cats. It usually give people a horror, scary images of a black cat. So in this case, color is part of the characteristic to make a scary images.

Second, weapon or accessory - people use weapon to kill. Even a phantom has its own weapon. Weapon like blades, swords are often use to describe killing, blood, etc.

Third, blood - This element would not run away when it is to show something that sacred people because most of the time, people afraid of blood and wounds.

Fourth, scars - Just like vampires or zombies, their body are full of scars.

The whole physical appearance of the cat would look something like the illustrations.

Mortar & Pestle

5 random things that lecturer want us to think about.
During this lesson, we are given a chance to think of something new from existed object.
Based on the key words given, this is what I can think of...
pestle can be use as a tools for exercise. Save money from buying exercising tools.

Mortar can be use to protect coconut. In some places, it has possibilities that animal eat the coconut. To ptotect from animal it can be cover by mortar. The pestle can be use to crack the coconut shell as well.

On the beach, It could be part of the tools to make sand castle. Put sand into the mortar to get the shape.

It can be a decoration as well.

Finally, it can be invent into music instruments. It might create new sound from it.

Juxtaposition

Juxtaposition mean 'the act of positioning close together'(side by side) by [source].

In the lecture, it also been explain by our lecturer about juxtaposition. It can simply be defined as placing two subject together or side by side to show their contrast or similarity. In creative processes, this method usually being rely on to create awareness or just to make the artwork looks better.
In the picture above, juxtaposition can be explain by the polar bear, penguin and igloo that placed together. It creates similarity among themselves.

While the picture below showing two girls with difference in their appearance. It create contrast either on the bikini girl or the woman holding the sandals.

Street Art

What came to your mind when someone say about street arts?
Most of the time people will think of vandalism, where people paint and spray on public properties. No matter what it was, it somehow still part of what we called as 'art'.

If we think it in different ways, it actually makes abandon buildings or walls look colourful.
Ignore graffiti and whatever came up in your mind about street art.
How about something like the pictures shown below?
Anything can be seems to impressed people in different ways depending on how we look upon that particular things. Everything have their own positive and negative that make it balance.
How people judge on it is different issue.
No matter what, I insists that without all this people trying their best to expressed thru art, life would be very dull and fade. There would be no colours exist.
If you travel to Italy, most of the students from their own arts academy or street artists using floor on the street as their medium to draw. From early morning, they can be seen sitting on the streets that crowded with people passing by. Most of the time, they draw until late night and once they done their artwork, they washed it away with water and start again drawing new things the next day on the floor.
They just doing what they think they want to do just to satisfy themselves.
It's worth for what they are doing... (who cares?)

Mind Map - MySelf

After the past lecture that taught about mind mapping, we are required to come up with our own digital mind map and here it is.

A simple logical mind map introducing myself

A short briefing about myself :

I just graduated from TarCollege with Diploma in Mass Comm (Graphic Design) and currently study at MMU in Media Innovation. I love to draw graffiti and vector art and most of urban arts. Like to listen to music very much.
I wish to learn more software related to design to improve my skills for my future.

Magic or Illusion?

Magic which can be define as part of an entertainment by creating illusions for something that seems impossible become possible. It had been practiced throughout the history. To learn extra information of what magic is about and its history, go Wiki.
These people looks familiar, don't they?
...Well known Magician...

What is interesting here is that how 'magic' came to us at the first place? It is a creative idea to use illusion and tricks to entertain audience. Different magician used different ways of tricks. Their imaginations are good to make people believes what they see with their naked eyes.

These day, magic no longer a secret for magician, since it can be find and learnt everywhere. Some magician even published books about their own magic. It became more to an entetrtainment rather than a myth or supernatural, like what the oldies believe it was.

Lesson 3 - Method of Creative Thinking

Creative thinking including both convergent and divergent thinking.

Divergent thinking
Jus like the figure shown above, divergent thinking involves exploring and generating new ideas by brainstorming, look for alternatives for the problem and so on. This would be the most important step for artists and designers to explore the tasks given before they can move on.

Convergent Thinking

After the solution being diverge, we need to find the best way to get the answer and it require convergent thinking. At this moment, all sorts of possibilities, solution and ideas that generates in the mind group together to get a solution.

Unfortunately, everyone in the world including you and me is either good in divergent or convergent thinking, usually not at both. Just like the studies of right brain and left brain that controls different tasks in our mind.

MIND MAP
Tony Buzan introduced this method call mind map for generating ideas and brainstorming. It increase the interests of both the creator and viewer.

There are few techniques or sort of like rules while creating a mind map. As it have two types of mind map which is logical mind map and associated mind map, both have their own characteristics that seems similar by the appearance but not the message being delivered.

Logical mind map
It directly connecting the images and words in the mind map through links. All the images and words are related to the subject in the central. This kind of mind map are common and often can be seen.

Associated mind map
In this mind map, the words or images that links to one another can be not related to the subject. It is very random and do not directly related to the subject given.

Toys

I am one of the fans of Transformers. I just start to read and look for information about Transformers recently, affected by the movie series of the Transformers. Before that, Transformers only released in cartoon series for more than 20 years since the first that came out was somewhere around 1984.

Just showing Optimus Prime, the leader of Autobot
(Most of you all should know Transformers more than I do. So I just showing some of the pictures to see how the character change from time to time)

First, the 'old school' Optimus Prime

Optimus Prime in Animated series since 2007
(below)

Great achievements and great character designs. Movie series directed by Micheal Bay.
(Below)

It influence alot on the society until some companies are actually following the trends to bring up their own brands. Just like the picture shown below, in 2007 Nike had come up with its shoe designs that can transform into robotic figure. The scale of the shoe is slightly smaller than the original.
The designers are creative enough to think of such a things to combine robot and shoe.

Novelty, Creativity, Innovation and Invention

Since the first lecture I attended, we were taught about definition and understanding of creativity. In this post, I would like to write about novelty, innovation and invention that comes together with creativity that brings significance to our society today.

I want to share a phrase quoted by lecturer in the slides that says,
"Being creative is seeing the same thing as everybody else but thinking of something different"
(Shekerjian, D. 1990)

This phrase quite make sense to me because although everyone is looking at the same thing like what we did but everyone is thinking differently and imagine it in different way. This can be explain in a simpler way.

......Just think of a pencil......

Everyone will comes out with different kind of pencil, with difference in brands, length, colours, quality, quantity or some even think of a pencil with broken lids.
This shows that everyone have their own imagination although we are talking about the same things.

Novelty
The definition gave by the lecturer says that novelty is the quality of being new. It explains that novelty exists in the subjective perceptions of individuals or groups. Someone cannot blame that he/she knows everything and judge thing from that point but instead, everyone will judge something based on their perceptions on how they look upon that particular things.

Innovation
Innovation is the process of improving something that already existing into something new. How to be called as innovation is that the idea or thoughts have to be satisfy specific neeeds like economic cost and people will pay for it.
This can explain what Thomas Edison did. He never create light bulb but innovate light bulb becoming more practical, economical and safe to use.

Invention
Inventors are people who take existing knowledge and create new ideas. It usually comes together with novelty, creativity and innovation, where they rely on each other in order to create something new for the society.

"Graffiti is the best medium to communicate through visuals between artist and society"
quotes THEY.

One of Malaysian Graffiti Artist, THEY started his street art for more than ten years and being more active in nearly six years ago. The reason I would like to introduce him and his members is that we should be proud of our own country with our own artist and our own creativity.

Malaysia Pavilion Shnaghai World Expo 2010.
He and his teammates painted the rooftop.
Besides that, He also went to Thailand for FunFair 2010 events happening on April.
Part of the pictures taken while he teaching the children to colour.

Defining Creativity

During this lecture, we were taught more detailed about creativity after it been briefed during past lecture. According to few resources that can be found online, like Wikipedia, uwsp, and some other writer and philosopher, I can make a conclusion about the definition of creativity.

Creativity can be define as the ability and power to generate ideas and thought into reality. The process including critical thinking and the creativity process itself.

It is true to be said that, there is no longer any originality can be found in todays' designs and even it have, it is hard to be found. However, creativity helps designer to elaborate and used up others people designs as part of their work by generating different thought and ideas on it which seems to be different from others. Hence, it create an originality onto the piece of artwork through creative process.

Here is part of the history about light bulb. Thomas Edison is not the first who created light bulb but Humphry Davy did. What Thomas Edison do was just to improve what had existed becoming more practical, safe and economical. ( Resources from here.)

Put the history aside and let me ask you a question. Is it a light bulb can only be just a light bulb? Everyone can be creative enough to produce something and generate new thoughts to others. Just like the picture below, a light bulb can be something else, depending on how you look upon a things.

A simple exercise is given by the lecturer for this lesson, which is to edit a friend's photo up to your personal skills and creativity.

Top: Original photo
Below: Edited

My idea was to create the image of my fren in a vector mode rather than editing on the photo itself. It seems to be more fun in which we can add in simple shapes to make it looks totally different.

Territory Magazine

A short brief about its history, this magazine was concieved in 2004 by Bigbros Workshop. It evolves along with all sorts of design and illustration in its own way. Territory Magazine has open up spaces to connect international and local designers. It creates a reflection on present and future designs.

Picture below is a screenshot of its webpage.

Territory Magazine, Volume 11: Design Crusaders
The reason why I share this magazine in my blog is because we can make it as references for our own design and as part of our moodboard. Moreover, there are few local designers being interviewed and their artwork can be found in the magazine.

In volume 11, local artists like Yayawoo and Kawakong showing part of their work in the magazine.
